In the words of Olivia Newton John … Let’s get physical! Physical! for this week’s self-care series installment.
Time and time again, exercise has proven to be one of the most effective ways of managing stress. This is in large part due to the body’s increase of neurotransmitters known as endorphins combined with the natural increase of oxygen flowing to the brain and other parts of your body.
But the benefits don’t stop there!
Even light physical activity just a couple of times a week has been shown to improve sleep, improve and stabilize mood, assist in regulating the body’s endocrine system, improve confidence and self-esteem and even improve memory.
The benefits of physical activity can be found when partaking in almost any exercise — from light yoga to a brisk walk or even an intense weightlifting session. Please consult with your doctor or other chosen medical professional prior to beginning any new exercise routine to ensure safety and discuss how to get the most benefit. And then exit Netflix, put down the video game controller and get physical!
Need to exercise your brain too? Your Story Matters is accepting new clients of all ages in Iowa or Nebraska for telehealth sessions during COVID-19. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
